By using Cogntive Discourse Analysis (Tenbrink 2015), I apply Talmy’s models of Figure-Ground motion (1975), windowing of attention (1996), and lexical conflation (1985) to examine expressions of this form of abstract motion. Much theoretical and experimental research has been undertaken with the framework of Conceptual Metaphor Theory (Johnson and Larson, 2003 Adlington 2003 Larson 1997 Eitan and Granot 2006 Antovic 2009), but no one has yet applied a perception-based motion schematization model to descriptions of musical ‘movement’.
